In some cases, electronic spectra are sufficient for characterization; however, there are many instances where the identity of a component must be confirmed through the analysis of properties of a known material.  Microtrace’s physical collection of chemicals consists of thousands of pure compounds spanning inorganic and organic reagents, amino acids, active pharmaceutical ingredients, illicit drugs, pigments, and dyes.  This collection, and its inventory, is curated through a relational database and its contents are constantly drawn upon for casework, training and research.
