Thin Layer Chromatography
High performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) is a practical and useful method for separating and identifying various compounds, particularly fiber dyes and inks. Microtrace has utilized this approach in a wide variety of forensic casework, with successfully scaling the technique to utilize extremely small amounts of fiber or ink. These methods are being further refined through a formal research program supported partially by the National Institute of Justice, in which Microtrace is developing more advanced methods of dye analysis and identification.
